Fury of Emong at the Bolinao Marine Laboratory
Aerial photos of UPMSI Bolinao Marine Laboratory after Typhoon Emong

Bolinao was among those directly hit by typhoon Emong when its path coursed through the Philippines on May 7-8, 2009.  The UPMSI Bolinao Marine Laboratory suffered severe damages which included ripped roof tops of four buildings, broken glass doors and windows, roofless hatchery, misaligned seawater pipes of land based hatchery, wet scientific equipment, broken down internet connections among others.  Shown above are two aerial photos taken by Dr. Gil Jacinto of the damages made by the typhoon.

The Office of the Campus Architect is assessing the extent of the damage. The Executive Officers of the MSI had already requested assistance from the Office of the Chancellor, Dr. Sergio S. Cao. Other agencies would also be requested to help as it entails a lot of work and expenses. Meantime,  some repair and rehabilitation of the marine laboratory are already being undertaken as the present "rainy" summer could do further damage to the interior of the buildings
